Tournament Structure for the Northern Trust
Played on various courses in and around the Boston and New York metropolitan areas, the Northern Trust Open is an annual stroke play professional tournament on .
Like most stroke play events, play lasts for four days from Thursday through Saturday, and incorporates 72 holes, 18 per day. After 36 holes have been played through, which is by the end of play Friday, a cut is inflicted on the field to trim it. Players on a high score – which is bad in golf – are removed from the tournament, while the others who are doing well continue on to the weekend. After 72 holes have been played, the player with the highest below-par sꦯcore is crowned the champion. It is not uncommon for players to remain tied after the completion of all 72 holes, in which case a playoff takes place in order to determine a winner.

Northern Trust Betting Tips & Predictions 2021
We’ve made it to the FedEx Cup play offs which get underway this Thursday at the Liberty National in New York complete with its amazing views of the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty. The second to last time the Liberty hosted the Northern Trust Challenge, Australia’s Adam Scott was the winner when he posted -11 back in 201ဣ3. Back then, Scott, who last week came second in the Wyndham Championship, was the world number four, as was current number two Dustin Johnson when he took down the title by a whopping eleven shots this time last year at the TPC Boston.
In terms of the winner’s ranking here, despite moving from host course to host course, a member of the world’s top 25 has won this tourney seven out of the last eight years. This suggests that, unlike many other tourneys, outsiders have a harder time in this event than many others. Whether this is because the pressure this close to the FedEx climax gets to some or other, higher ranking pros, elevate their game is up to you, but it certainly seems cut out for the higher marked golfers on tour. And, of those eight winners, all eight of them ranked among the top five playing accurately with strong driving from tee to green.
This is why 2017 FedEx Cup champion Justin Thomas looks a good choice for a punt for a repeat victory four years on. He has, by and large, had another disappointing season on the greens, espec😼ially for a player of such immense talent. There have been flashings of success from the 2017 PGA winner, but little all else in the way of threatening major success. Thomas looked like going well at Augusta and did win the Players but t𓄧hat’s about it and a FedEx Cup winning finish would salvage another frustrating year.
When we are on the hunt for players in the top 25 with great strokes gained approach games, Thomas, who ranked fourth in such stats at Southwind, looks like coming into the right 𝐆form at the right time, even if his putting was still a little way off. On form though, the world number five looks a great shout.
When New York last housed this event, Patrick Reed overcame a classy field to round out the 2017 season in true style. Reed, aka Captain America, is back this week looking to nail down some Ryder Cup claims after pulling out of the Wyndham following his last-minute call up for the Olympics and could benefit from the ex🐻tra week’s relaxation.
Another worthy pick could be Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy. He had a similar year in 2016 as to the one he has regis🐭tered this time around when, as now, he never looked close to being in contention when it 𒈔came to the majors. He finished the 2016 season winning two of the four playoff events to land that year’s FedEx Cup, just as he did in 2019.
Back at last week’s WGC-St Jude Invitational, Thomas was by far and away the best ball striker in the field, posting 12.35 strokes with his tee shots and approaches, pipping himself ahead of Daniel Berger and Hideki Matsuyama. The world number 15 came home in sixth place the last time the Northern was held on this course, but he is in a better mood this time around following last w🌳eek’s exploits and his price tag set in the low twenties is not to be sniffed at.

Popular Northern Trust Betting Markets
As with any golf event, the Northern Trust offers many great golf betting and live in-play betting opportunities, a mere ♊f🌺ew of which we have listed below.
Outright Winner
To place a bet on the outright winner is to bet on the golfer that is crowned champion on the final day of the Northern Trust Open. If your pick is indeed the player that lifts the trophy on the final day, then your bet is a winner. If, on the other hand, your pick starts slipping down the leaderboard, then maybe cashing out is your best option.

Match Betting
Match betting in golf essentially pits one player against another, and it’s the punter’s job to predict which of the two will fare better. With this bet, there is no need to focus on the wider tourney; all that matters is which of these two players shoots either tꦺhe better round or finishes higher up the table, depending on the wager placed.

Hole-in-One Betting
The elusive hole-in-one – in which a player pots the ball directly from the tee in one stroke – is a rare but beautiful thing in golf. They can and do happen on occasion, though, and bettors can, if they so wiꦏsh, choose to make a prop bet on such an occurrence happening.

History of The Northern Trust Golf Tournament
The tournament started out in 1967, when it was known simply as the Westchester C🌜lassic due to it being played at the Westchester Country Club in Rye, New York🧔. As of 2008, the Westchester Country Club was removed as the permanent host venue, and the tournament began being rotated among different clubs in the metropolitan areas around New York and Boston. The event has been known by many names for sponsorship reasons, but as of 2017, when Northern Trust replaced Barclays as title sponsor, the tournament has been known as The Northern Trust Open.
